Energy Champions’ & Mentors’ Meet

ENERGISING THE READY TO SAVE !
(Energy Champions’ And Energy Mentors’ Meet)

The Bombay House Auditorium filled with chirpy children swelled our hearts with pride. Here was our first bumper crop of enthusiastic Energy Conservationists which had sprung from the little seeds sown in schools across the city through our Energy Conservation Programme with School Children. About 240 Energy Champions, from among the 299 on record, along with their 26 mentors and one school principal, were present at the Energy Champions’ and Mentors’ Meet on 22nd January, 2009,which was specially arranged to laud the efforts and interest of these school children and their guiding teachers in saving electricity and sensitizing others to also do likewise.

Registration

Ms. Poonam Kishinchandani very appropriately anchored the proceedings which had Mr. Prasad Menon, MD , Tata Power, welcome the gathering and explain again the need for conserving energy. Ms. Shalini Singh , Chief- Corporate Communications, then made a presentation on the role of the Tata Power Energy Club, its achievements so far and the way forward.

Presentation on the Energy Conservation
Programme and the Road Map

The Tata Power Energy Club sensitized 10, 000 students in 25 schools in Phase I of this programme and from among these students, 300 have actually started keeping a track of their energy consumption and have gone on to sensitize 20,000 citizens of Mumbai in their outreach as part of their secondary sensitization of friends and neighbourhood. The website alone has in a short time seen the registration of over 1000+ members which speaks volumes for the interest evinced by the student community and the movement catching on. The target for the year 2009-2010 for the Energy Champions is to sensitize 1,00000 citizens in this metropolis alone which is not an unattainable goal.

Packed Auditorium

Three Mentors, viz., Mr. Sanjiv Pai( Greenlawns School) , Mr. Errik Elavia(Lady Engineer School) and Ms. Philomena(Chaturbhuj Narsee International School) made presentations and spoke in glowing terms of the programme and the response by the students to it .Two Energy Champions, Ms.FreiaLobo(Bombay Scottish School, Powai) and Saniddi Joshipura ( JB Petit High School) captured the essence in how they had made a change in their own little way to the conservation of energy by cutting down on the wasteful use of electricity in their own homes.

Girisha Rao of Krishna Public School, Bhilai, has become the catch phrase on all the Tata Power Energy Club’s publicity material.
