Tata Power Energy Club (TPEC), Tata Power's nationwide energy conservation movement led by schoolchildren, today conferred ADLS Sunshine School, Jamshedpur as the 'Energy Savvy School Club' for the innovative methods used by the school children and teachers to propagate the message of energy conservation.
Mr. P. L. Manjrekar, General Manager, Tata Power, Jojobera operations awarded the principal and one of the students (Energy Ambassador) on behalf of the school for their relentless efforts undertaken to curb the wasteful usage of energy.
ADLS Sunshine School is the first school from Jamshedpur to get this award. It is also the first school from the steel city where all the students who were sensitized in turn sensitized other citizens to become energy ambassadors. ADLS Sunshine School has a total of 850 energy ambassadors, another first for this school.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Manjrekar said, "The efforts undertaken by the schools, schoolchildren along with their parents, teachers are the pillars of this movement to stop wasteful usage of power. ADLS Jamshedpur is striking example of how schools can contribution towards this national movement that has grown leaps and bounds with each passing day. I take this opportunity to congratulate the teachers and school children involved in spreading the mantra of energy conservation across the city."
Today, Tata Power Energy Club has covered 400 schools and sensitised more than 2.8 million (28 lakh) citizens across the nation and over 3 million units of electricity have been saved till date. The Club is proud to have more than 19095 Energy Champions and 32257 Energy Ambassadors this year who are spreading the mantra of energy conservation among people across various age and income groups. Today, there are 154 mini Tata Power Energy Clubs across Mumbai, which are run by the school children with the aim to stop wastage of electricity.

Tata Power started its school outreach programme, "Tata Power Energy Club" in 2007. In 2009, Tata Power Energy Club took its next big leap, with the programme turning into a national movement, covering more than 250 schools across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Belgaum, Jamshedpur and Lonavla and further attained a new milestone of achieving over one million citizens sensitization and more than one million units energy savings. School children, from Class III to Class IX, are taught the importance of conserving energy through innovative half hour modules which include audio-visuals and power point presentations. Children are imparted energy saving tips during these sessions, usage of which have shown dramatic savings.
In 2010-11, Tata Power Energy Club sensitized over 2.5 lakh children across 285 schools nationwide; these children have further reached out to more than eight lakh people, thereby taking the total sensitization figure to over 1 (One) million citizens. The Club members have collectively saved 2,019,563 units of electricity.
