Students of St. Lawrence School, Kandivali undertake a rally to spread awareness
about Energy Conservation on the occasion of international ozone preservation day |
United Nation has designated September 16 as the international day for preserving the ozone layer that has been depleting day by day. Commemorating the day, schools institutes, universities around the world propagate the message of energy and resource conservation thereby ensuring that not people conserve energy but also contribute towards effective use of fossil fuels.
Taking the same message forward, students of St Lawrence High School, Kandivali undertook a rally to spread the message and celebrate international ozone preservation day through Club Enerji, the flagship sustainability program of Tata Power.
Over 600 Students of class VII to IX participated in rally that was carried out in Kandivali (East). The students interacted with citizens across age groups and enlightened them on the need for energy conservation and the ways and means through which each individual can contribute and make a difference. A poster making competition was also organized which saw enthusiastic participation from school children who involved children from residential colonies in Kandivili. This further encouraged participation from the residents.
Post undertaking an extensive school contact program Club Enerji (formerly known as Tata Power Energy Club) is now a national movement on energy conservation spread across 9 major cities in the country. Club Enerji encourages students to form their own mini energy clubs in their school and societies, to propogate the message of energy conservation to citizens and society at large. Club Enerji also has various nationwide engagement programmes like Energy-Q (Quiz competition), Spark of Life (Poster making contest), Every Watt Counts (Essay Competition), newsletter, and an exciting website. With informative and interesting publications like Energy Book - ‘Watts up with Energy?’ , activity booklets, audio-visuals and anthem. This year, Club Enerji aims at sensitizing more than 1.5 million citizens, saving over 3.5 million units of electricity and forming 1000 self-sustaining mini enerji clubs across the county.

Tata Power started its school outreach programme, “Tata Power Energy Club” in 2007. In 2009, Club Enerji took its next big leap, with the programme turning into a national movement, covering more than 250 schools across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Belgaum, Jamshedpur and Lonavla and further attained a new milestone of achieving over one million citizens sensitization and more than one million units energy savings. School children, from Class III to Class IX, are taught the importance of conserving energy through innovative modules which include audio-visuals and power point presentations. Children are imparted energy saving and resource conservation tips during these sessions, usage of which have shown dramatic savings. In 2010-11, Tata Power Energy Club sensitized over 2.5 lakh children across 285 schools nationwide; these children have further reached out to more than eight lakh people, thereby taking the total sensitization figure to over 1 (One) million citizens. The Club members have collectively saved 2,019,563 units of electricity.
