Tata Power Club Enerji members to engage in the battle of minds at ‘Energy Quiz’ 2011 Nov 30, 2011

Club Enerji’s  Annual national quiz competition to challenge young minds
Aims to impart knowledge and awareness in an ‘edu-taining’ manner

Club Enerji (formerly known as Tata Power Energy Club) Tata Power’s nationwide energy conservation movement, has kick started the nationwide hunt for the next Energy-Q Champions!

Energy-Q 2011, the national quiz competition will see participation from more than seventy thousand students across 190 schools from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Ahemdabad and Kolkata. Quizzers from Classes VII and VIII from these cities will move through five gruelling rounds of quizzing – preliminary written round, city knock out rounds, inter-city quarter final round, semi final and Grand Finale – to lay their claim on the Energy-Q trophy!

Speaking on this initiative, Anil Sardana, Managing Director said, Global Warming and Climate change is a reality today. There is an urgent need to educate and bridge the gap for simpler and easier energy conservation practices. Club Enerji is a platform which is fast gaining acceptance and thereby making the next generation more aware of this situation. Energy-Q seeks to impart knowledge and information on energy conservation, climate change, global warming and resource conservation while testing young minds in a challenging, fun and engaging manner.”

Club Enerji’s Energy-Q 2011 is a test of the awareness levels of students sensitized by the company in the area of energy conservation, climate change and resource conservation. 27 teams – 3 from Delhi (NCR), 2 from Pune, 2 from Ahmedabad, 1 from Bangalore and Kolkata each and 18 schools from Mumbai – will compete in the Quarter Final round  on 14th December 2011 at Maharashtra Nature Park, Sion, to qualify for the 9 precious berths in the Semi Final round.

In the Grand Finale, 4 teams will battle it out through 5 power packed rounds – Multiple Choice Questions, Audio Visual questions, Straight questions, Cluedo and Rapidfire Round. The Energy-Q Grand Finale is on 15th December 2011 at the K.C. College Auditorium, Churchgate, Mumbai to claim the crown of Energy-Q Champion!

Energy Quiz, is a national property of Club Enerji and is being conducted for the third consecutive year. The quiz has seen enthusiastic participation from children across the country and the winners of last year’s Grand final were DAV Public school-Pune. Ryan International School, Noida were the winners for the year 2009.

Tata Power started its school outreach programme, “Tata Power Energy Club” in 2007. In 2009, Club Enerji took its next big leap, with the programme turning into a national movement, covering more than 250 schools across Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Belgaum, Jamshedpur and Lonavla and further attained a new milestone of achieving over one million citizens sensitization and more than one million units energy savings. School children, from Class III to Class IX, are taught the importance of conserving energy through innovative modules which include audiovisuals and power point presentations. Children are imparted energy saving and resource conservation tips during these sessions, usage of which have shown dramatic savings. In 2010-11, Tata Power Energy Club sensitized over 2.5 lakh children across 285 schools nationwide; these children have further reached out to more than eight lakh people, thereby taking the total sensitization figure to over 1 (One) million citizens. The Club members have collectively saved 2,019,563 units of electricity.
