Tata Power’s school outreach programme, the Tata Power Energy Club, is now in Kolkata.

The programme has started with four schools in Kolkata: National English School, Pramila Memorial Institute, Saifee Golden Jubilee English Public School and North Point Day School.

The students underwent training sessions and workshops focusing on methods and means of energy conservation. The company further intends to extend this campaign to the various colleges in the city thereby attaining the desired target of sensitizing maximum citizens.

Speaking on the initiative Prasad R Menon, managing director, Tata Power, said, “The enthusiastic response from other cities is really heartening and going by this success, we are confident that the citizens of Kolkata will join us in our mission of ‘energy conservation’ and help us achieve our goal of sensitizing one million citizens by 2010.”

Through this initiative, Tata Power believes in involving the youths, the decision makers of tomorrow; to play a vital role in not only propagating efficient usage of energy but also furthering the larger cause of educating society.

In order to make the initiative a success, it is important that the people who train the young minds i.e. principals and heads of the educational institutions are taken on board for their belief and support.

The programme has already been implemented in Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jamshedpur, Belgaum, Lonavla and Bengaluru.
